New Vicar Arrives in Boca Grande With 'Miss Scarlet'
By Linda Fudala-Tucker

The Rev. C. Read Heydt told the congregation Sunday he has been "planted in a new vineyard" as the Vicar of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

"It's nice to be here," he said. As an interim priest he said he served churches in Toledo, Tampa, Naples, Clearwater, Jacksonville, and lastly, the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Albany, N.Y.

"This is a beautiful island and a beautiful church. Like the natives of Israel, you are the people planted here," he said. "I hope we are a place where God's love, heart, and hands reach out to the entire community."

Boca Grande Real Estate Firms Go International

By Linda Fudala-Tucker

Gulf to Bay Properties is now Gulf to Bay Sotheby's International Realty. And fellow island realty company - Gasparilla Properties has been invited for membership on the Board of Regents, Luxury Real Estate.

Both affiliations mean greater access to property listings in Boca Grande and surrounding areas by buyers around the country and abroad.

"The affiliation with Sotheby International gives us the tools to service our sellers with the best marketing- advertising support that's available. The caliber of people working on our behalf is unrivaled," said Richard Taylor who with Donna Moore are co-owners of Gulf to Bay.

Gasparilla Properties owner, Bob Melvin had similar things to say about his new affiliation. "The staff at Luxury Real Estate provides us with the latest innovative

internet marketing tools. Our highnet worth clientele has come to expect global exposure when selling their homes."

Both owners called the new affiliations "the right fit" for them.

"We worked for nearly a year on this," said Taylor.

Environmental Code Violation Hearing: Guilty But No Fine
By Linda Fudala-Tucker

The turtle nesting environmental code violation hearing for a Boca Grande beach residence on Monday went on as scheduled but yielded no fine for the residence at 4037 Shore Lane.

"There was a finding of fact of guilty which means that if lights are left on again, we won’t have to post a notice it will become an automatic fine," said Grace Harvey, head of the Gasparilla Island Turtle Patrol who attended the meeting. The nesting season ends on Oct. 31, and there are still problems of lighting on the beach.

"The house next door now has a posted notice," said Harvey. The fight for survival

for sea turtles has been especially difficult this year because of red tide, she added. "We've had a number of dead turtles this year. We know the cause of death in many cases isn't due to boats or other injuries."

Two turtles rescued and transported to Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota during the last two weeks - Phoebe and Rachel - are still recuperating there. Phoebe's problem wasn’t due to red tide, according to information posted on the website. Rachel’s was attributed to red tide.

Phoebe's report: This turtle was found floating off Boca Grande Pass

by boaters and was brought to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital for rehabilitation. Turtle does NOT show symptoms of red tide toxico-
