In 1923, H.M. Jewett was president of Paige-Detroit Motor Car Co. And so a car built by the company was named the Jewett. Just over 40,000 of the snazzy car were sold before they were then marketed as a Paige.

Harry Jewett II of Boca Grande is the grandson of H.M. and a 1923 Jewett known for its exceptionally fine and sporty lines, has stayed in the family, but not until it changed hands a few times.

"Father got it in 1954 from Grandfather, and it was sold and someone restored it. My brother and I decided to buy it back and now it belongs to me," said Jewett, who started coming to Boca Grande in the 1950’s by boat and docking at old Miller's Marina. He and wife, Susan, have lived here for the past two years.

A car buff since the 1940's, Jewett has relatives on both sides of the family who were race car drivers including a great-great uncle, Joe Boyer who won the Indy 500 in 1924 driving a Duesenberg. The uncle met a tragic end only months later, said Jewett. "He won

Tarpon is still the Silver King and the Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament proved it last week with a winning catch weighing in at about 115 pounds. Now it's the Boca Grande Fishing Guides Association's turn with their tournament slated for fishing in the

The Community Planning Panel meets today at 2 p.m. in the Boca Bay Power House to go over recommendations in a Lee County Division of Development staff report that was to be delivered to members on Wednesday.

The Panel has also scheduled a meeting on May 27, 2 to 5 p.m. at the Boca Bay Power House should there be further work to be done on the plan before the June 1 transmittal meeting.

The May 27th meeting could be canceled if all goes well on Monday.
